Gran Fondo is a cycling event concept that originated in the 1970s in Italy. It combines long-distance riding, scenic routes, and a strong sense of community. It’s not a traditional race, but rather a celebration of the joy of cycling – each participant rides at their own pace, enjoying the journey without the pressure of competition. The Gran Fondo format quickly spread from Italy to the rest of Europe and eventually around the world.
Today, Gran Fondos are popular mass-participation events that blend athletic challenge, camaraderie, and unforgettable routes. They typically offer multiple distance options, support stations along the way, and a safely organized riding experience. These events attract both recreational riders and seasoned cyclists, all united by a love of cycling and the desire to push their personal limits.
